Hey there, my name is Max and I work on how we can make learning powerful, relevant, and fun through active experiences. Using historical games and simulations, I want to give students the opportunity to discover knowledge and gain wisdom in the same way we as a human collective did over the course of history. I propose a curriculum in which students recreate human history, undertaking similar expeditions, confronting similar problems, and experiencing the same emotions as our ancestors, all within class simulations.
Instead of rote memorization, tests, and worksheets, I hope to design ways for students to learn math through celestial navigation, science through observation and experimentation, history through diplomacy, commerce, and warfare, and the humanities by writing and performing their own plays or engaging in their own Platonic dialogues. By tying all the subjects together in a chronological simulation, I hope to create an immersive, holistic, and self-reinforcing context in which students have fun while creatively collaborating in solving real world problems.
